Kappa Sigma has been more than just a four-year affiliation for Brother Chase: it has been a family legacy.
His father was a member of Beta-Omicron in the 1920s when the original house was built. Blaine’s two brothers, Ron and Wendell, were also Kappa Sigmas, as was Brother Chase’s son, Rick.
Brother Chase has always been family-oriented. While a student in 1952, he joined his father’s appraisal business. After spending three years in the U.S Air Force after graduation, he returned to the industry, merging his father’s company with the Frederick R. Ross Company in 1964. He was then named Senior Vice President and member of the Board of Directors.
Brother Chase sold his share in the company in 1977, and resurrected Chase and Company again. His son, Rick, joined the company a year later. They have been doing business together ever since. Chase and
Company specializes in industrial commercial property and recreational real estate. The company does business across the United States, from Texas in the south to as far north as Alaska, and from Missouri west to California.
Most recently, Brother Chase was involved with the appraisal of the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone National Park, where he was requested to evaluate the Concessionaires interests as a buyout by the
National Park Service. As a MAI Appraiser (Member Appraisal Institute), he has been active in various duties. He has served as past President of the Colorado Chapter of the American Institute of Real
Estate Appraisers; past President of the Denver Chapter of the Society of Real Estate Appraisers; past South Central Regional Vice President of the Appraisal Institute responsible for nine states in the Southwestern part of the United States.
He also chaired many committees for these organizations. Brother Chase is a member of the American Society of Real Estate Counselors with a CRE designation and is also a member of the International Right of Way Association where he has served on numerous committees. Through it all, Brother Chase has been a Kappa Sigma at heart. A former DU football player, Brother Chase served on the House Corporation from 1982 to 1995, and is currently a campaign volunteer, a member of the Beta-Omicron Architectural Committee, and donor to the Kappa Sigma Challenge Campaign.
“Memories, I’ve got so many of them,” he said. “I enjoyed all the camaraderie I had with many of those fellas. I developed a good relationship with many other Kappa Sigs when I was at DU. They’re such a good group of guys.” When he and his wife Lorraine aren’t spending time with their three children and six grandchildren, they’re enjoying the outdoors at a home in the Colorado mountains. The mountain home, like his business, is family property. “We all love to ski, fish, play golf, and enjoy nature,” he said. “It’s just great to be around the family.”
